A Plaid Cymru MS has welcomed the news that a post office in the Rhymney Valley is reopening after a closure of more than three years.

The New Tredegar branch will be reopening on Wednesday October 13 at 1pm at the same premises but under a new postmaster. It will offer the same services it hosted before it temporarily closed in June 2018.

The news was announced in a letter from the Post Office to local representatives.

Peredur Owen Griffiths MS, who represents the South Wales East region, said: “It is fantastic news that New Tredegar will be getting local post office services back after a long time without.

“This reopening will no doubt give heart to other communities – like Cefn Golau - that have lost post office services that they can return, even after a long hiatus.

“Post Offices are a vital part of communities and provide a lifeline for many. We should use them whenever possible to ensure they continue to operate.

“I’m sure the people of New Tredegar will get behind the local branch when it reopens next month.”
