A Plaid Cymru MS visited a major employer in his region to see how they are operating in a competitive and challenging food market.
Peredur Owen Griffiths, who represents the South Wales East region, met with Just Love Food Company chief executive officer Mike Woods during a visit at their premises on the Oakdale Business Park. The company employs more than 100 people to design, make and supply cakes for the major supermarkets as well as under their own range.
They specialise in making cakes free from nuts and other allergies which were developed after Mr Wood found difficulty finding such products for his own children, two of which have nut allergies.
Among the issues discussed during the meeting was recruitment, the rising cost of ingredients and the possibilities for expanding the company’s capacity and product line.
Peredur said: “The Just Love Food Company is a great example of a company that provides much needed jobs for local communities. They grew fast because they identified a significant gap in the cake market for allergy free and vegan products without compromising on quality and taste.
“This kind of innovation is to be applauded and encouraged. I was pleased to hear from Mike about the company’s ambitions to grow and develop in the coming years.
“With such an experienced leader and a diligent and dedicated workforce at the company, I look forward to seeing them achieve their ambitions.”
