Reacting to the news that staffing issues had closed a minor injuries unit early, Peredur Owen Griffiths MS said it was “concerning news.”

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board announced that the Minor Injuries Unit at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr closed early on Monday evening of this week because of a lack of available staff.

The Plaid Cymru MS for South Wales East said: “While the hospital trust has not been specific about the reasons for the staff issues, we have seen elsewhere in Wales how coronavirus has impacted upon services and businesses elsewhere in the country.

“Early evidence suggests the Omnicron variant is milder but, due to its transmissibility, it has greater potential to disrupt key services like our NHS and public transport network.

“With cases increasing, the next few weeks will be a challenging time. I urge everyone limit their contact with other people as much as possible in order to stay safe and to limit the impact of coronavirus on our services.”
