A Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd has welcomed news that a company behind plans to build a major glass manufacturing facility wants hire as many local contractors as possible during its construction.

Peredur Owen Griffiths, who represents South Wales East, said it was important that the Turkish company Ciner Glass gave an indication to use “local contractors where possible” during a virtual presentation this week.

During the 40 minute online session, Selçuk Küçükseyhan of Ciner Glass responded positively to a question about the use of local contractors during the construction phase of their proposed manufacturing facility in the Rassau area. If the factory gets the go ahead, up to 450 people will be employed during the construction phase and 600 jobs will be provided once it is fully operational.

A consultation phase has just begun on the facility which Peredur has urged local people to check out and have their say on.

He said: “The presentation from Ciner Glass and their associates provided some detailed information about the proposed facility.

“It was good to hear that if this project gets the go ahead then the benefits to the local economy will be maximised with as many local contractors employed as possible. This will be welcome news to trades men and women who have the right skills to help with the construction.”

Peredur added: “The consultation has just begun and I urge anyone with an interest to check out the many documents provided on the project. There is also an option for people to have their say and air any concerns.”
