Two Plaid Cymru Senedd Members have signposted help for people in need of accommodation or facing loneliness this Christmas.

Peredur Owen Griffiths and Delyth Jewell, who both represent the South Wales East region, said it was important that people in need of help over the festive period, can access it.

Shelter Cymru, the Citizens’ Advice Bureau and local authorities provide advice and support for people in need of emergency accommodation. There are also organisations like Age Cymru and Samaritans Cymru who help for people facing isolation over the Christmas holidays.

Peredur said: “Christmas can be a joyous time for many families but it can also be a time of turmoil and upheaval. Relationships can break down and people can find themselves without a roof over their head as a result.

“There is help and support for people who find themselves homeless and I urge people in this position to seek support from the agencies who are out there to provide it.”

Delyth said: “Not everyone has the company of family and friends over Christmas. For some people, Christmas can be a very lonely time.

“For anyone feeling low and isolated, I say this – ‘you are not alone.’ There are people out there on the end of a telephone who are willing to listen to your concerns and provide assurances. Please do not suffer in silence.”

The Shelter Cymru Advice line can be reached by dialling 08000 495 495. Citizens’ Advice can be contacted on 0800 702 2020. Age Cymru are on 0300 303 44 98 and the Samaritans are on 116 123.
